Dr. Sam Bollwinkel, DDS

Dr. Sam Bollwinkel has been practicing dentistry for 28 years, and he still approaches every case with the same curiosity and focus he had on day one. His clinical interests span the full scope of modern dentistry: dental implants, porcelain veneers, full smile makeovers, same day crowns, and nonsurgical aesthetic treatments including Botox and dermal fillers.

What sets Dr. Sam apart is his commitment to precision. He treats the face and smile as one integrated system, which is why he expanded into facial aesthetics years ago. His background in dental anatomy gives him an edge that most cosmetic-only providers cannot match: a deep, hands-on understanding of the muscles, nerves, and bone structure of the face.

Outside the operatory, Dr. Sam runs 3D Infusion, a training facility where he teaches other dental professionals advanced techniques in implant placement, digital workflows, and aesthetic injection. Dr. Zane Bollwinkel grew up right here in Gilbert, Arizona, and returning to practice in his hometown was always the plan. After completing his undergraduate degree at Utah Valley University in just three years, graduating in the top five percent of his class, he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco.

During dental school, Dr. Zane developed advanced skills in crown and bridge work, implant restoration, cosmetic dentistry, oral surgery, and orthodontic treatment. He brings that broad clinical foundation to Arizona Smiles every day, handling complex restorative cases with the same confidence he brings to a routine filling.

Dr. Zane’s approach to patient care is straightforward: listen first, explain clearly, and never recommend treatment a patient does not need. He believes that prevention is the best dentistry, and he takes time to educate every patient on how to maintain their results at home.

Born and raised in the East Valley, Dr. Zane understands this community because he is part of it. He and his wife are raising their family here, and he is proud to serve the neighbors, friends, and families he grew up alongside.

Dr. Andrew Carlson, DDS

Dr. Andrew Carlson took a winding road to dentistry, and he credits that journey with making him a better clinician. He grew up in Park City, Utah, where he spent winters on the ski slopes and summers on the water. Before entering the dental field, he worked as a scuba divemaster and a wedding photographer, two careers that taught him patience, attention to detail, and how to keep people comfortable in unfamiliar situations.

Dr. Carlson earned his bachelor’s degree in anatomy from the University of Utah before attending dental school at the University of the Pacific in San Francisco, where he and Dr. Zane became close friends and frequent study partners. He became the first doctor in his family, a milestone he carries with pride and a sense of responsibility to every patient who sits in his chair.

At Arizona Smiles, Dr. Carlson focuses on delivering calm, thorough care. He is especially skilled at putting anxious patients at ease and takes the time to explain every step of a procedure before he begins. When he is not practicing dentistry, Dr. Carlson can be found trail running, skiing, or exploring the Arizona desert with his family.
